The Six Wives of Henry VIII

So.... it's been a few years and I finally decided to update this wallpaper. I replaced Anne and Catherine Howard with the portraits that are possibly more accurate according to historians. Touched up the images.

For those of you unfamiliar with these ladies:

(top row, left to right)
Catalina de Aragon (aka Katherine of Aragon) was the youngest daughter to Isabella and Ferdinand of Spain. She was first married to Arthur, Henry's older brother, who died shortly after. Henry was her "Sir Loyal Heart", but divorced Catherine on the grounds that they were not legally married in the eyes of God, after a long marriage of miscarriages and stillbirths resulting in only one living daughter, Mary.

Anne Boleyn was Henry's second wife, his mistress while still married to Catherine. She gave birth to a baby girl who would later be Elizabeth I. She was beheaded due to (mostly likely) false charges of infidelity, treason and incest.

Jane Seymour was lady in waiting to both Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn. As wife to Henry, she gave birth to the long awaiting male heir, Edward. She then died of puerperal fever.

Anna von Cleves (Anne of Cleves) was from the Protestant duchy of Cleves. She was betrothed to Henry after he was shown her portrait, though upon meeting Anne, Henry was displeased with her appearance. He married her to avoid political conflict, but divorced her using (once again) legal technicalities.

Catherine Howard was a young girl living in Lambeth with her grandmother when she was taken to court to catch Henry's eye. She became his "Rose without a Thorn", only to have a rather promiscuous past revealed after the marriage, and charged with treason due to infidelity after the marriage with Henry's groomsman Thomas Culpepper. She was beheaded on the charges of adultery.

Catherine Parr had already been married twice to old men whom she nursed until they died. As a wealthy widow, she was free to love and though she was in love with Thomas Seymour, Henry claimed her for his own. She was his wife until Henry died at 55. She then married for the fourth time to her love Thomas, and then died from puerperal fever.

Isn't the pattern interesting? Catherine of Aragon and Anne of Cleves were foreign princesses and got divorced. Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard were ladies in waiting, cousins, and were beheaded. Jane Seymour and Catherine Parr both died from puerperal fever. O.o
